QuantumShield Welcomes Dr. Eckhard Karden as Automotive Industry Advisor

Claremont, CA | Dec 1, 2024 – QuantumShield Technologies is proud to announce that Dr. Eckhard Karden, a distinguished expert in automotive energy storage systems, has joined the company as Automotive Industry Advisor.


Based in Aachen, Germany, Dr. Karden brings over 25 years of expertise at the intersection of automotive engineering, battery research, and industry standards development. He served as a Technical Expert in Ford’s Global Research & Advanced Engineering organization from 2002 to 2023, where he played a pivotal role in shaping cost-effective, CO₂-saving battery technologies and operating strategies for applications such as engine stop-start, brake energy recuperation, and functional safety.


Dr. Karden’s work has bridged academic research, supplier collaborations, and OEM implementation, providing a critical foundation for advancing low-voltage energy storage systems in modern vehicles. His influence extends beyond the automotive sector, with contributions to battery modeling, field data analysis, and regional quality engineering support.


Holding a Diploma in Physics and a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from RWTH Aachen University, Dr. Karden has authored or co-authored one book, four book chapters, 25 peer-reviewed articles, and holds 19 patents. He has been a session chair and invited speaker at leading global conferences, including AABC and ELBC, and actively participates in German, European, and International battery standardization groups. He is also the founder and chair of the ALBA (Automotive Lead Battery Advancements) Workshop Series, a key forum for advancing automotive battery technologies.

 

At QuantumShield, Dr. Karden will provide strategic guidance on automotive applications for sodium-ion batteries, supporting technology roadmaps, industry engagement, and technical positioning for next-generation energy storage systems.
